GRAND PARIS, GRAND BERLIN
Research Seminar Summer 2016

Program

Abstract

The research seminar "Grand Paris, Grand Berlin” is a research supplement to our design studio. The task of the research seminar will be the further development of the "Grand Berlin Atlas", a thematically structured collection of historic and contemporary mappings, analyses, projections, reference projects, texts, data and images, that was started in summer semester 2015.

Based on a set of hypotheses, the Atlas will investigate the spatial structure of Grand Berlin, from the metropolitan to the typological scale, and its underlying dynamics. At the same time it forms the collective knowledge pool of the design studio that will be extended, refined and deepened semester by semester.

The research seminar is divided into two parts: It will start with an intensive four-week workshop that will put up the main components of the this semester’s atlas; in a second phase we will sort the collected material and edit it for a publication.

Qualification

The research seminar is addressed to highly motivated students who should have experience with programs such as InDesign, Illustrator and CAAD. Erasmus students are explicitly welcome.
